Vom 15. bis zum 17. August 1969 fand das erste große und
wohl bis dato berühmteste Openair Musicfestival auf den
Wiesen des Farmers Max Yasgur aus White Lake, nahe der
Ortschaft Bethel (150 km von New York) statt. Erwartet
wurden ca. 50.000, den Pilgerstab aber ergriffen über 1
Million Menschen aus aller Welt, von denen es nur knapp
eine halbe Million auf das Gelände schaffte, da
Organisation und Infrastruktur vollkommen zusammenbrach.
